Abstract The climate justice literature typically endorses a moral right to produce subsistence emissions, but this appears problematic considering how urgent it has become reduce all emissions. It seems that we are currently facing dilemma between respecting people's and keeping emissions within reasonably safe budget. This article argues, however, there is no reason why permission must be accompanied by an exemption from responsibility. Even when dealing with can demand people correct for having emitted if they do so without jeopardizing their own vital interests. reduces the tension avoiding very significant change. If many emitters offset or contribute adaptation compensation because of them, negative consequences recognizing tempered comes both mitigating change responding its adverse effects.
